Good luck.

Who thinks anyone in Ocean Pines could name three Jamaican dishes?

Huh..... Ocean Pines is like the North OC Fenwick area in that they have the same clientele. Older people. Older people don't eat spicy food, But then again there are people who have limited choice in Ocean Pines. With the Casino opening down the steet and Route 90 then 589 being a thorofare I see that area with an opportunity for growth.

Where again is this Jamaican place going to be?

Re: Ocean CIty Restaurant News and Happenings....

A lot of the folks up here in North OC are addicted to Harrington and Dover. I don't see many of these folks going to Ocean Downs until all the "bugs" are worked out.

So what's up with Dr. Unks? Is it closing Jan. 1. Thanks for any feedback.

I heard that was a vicious negative rumor and you should be ashamed to post misinformation.

Can anyone give us a run down of what/who actually did go out of business? Dr. Unk's, etc.

I'd like an updated list as well. Think I'll start a thread.

Dr. Unks is still open, drive by it once or twice a week and it was on Monday.

There is a newish restaurant in Bethany called Off The Hook, http://offthehookrestaurant.webs.com/ I haven't been there but heard it was great (especially the lunch specials). They are opening another restaurant where the Quail was in Fenwick. I suspect it will do well, the guy has a lot of talent and ran the kitchen at Catch 54 for a while. I know that's Fenwick, not OC.

Jordans is winding down, the next operators all have successful restaurants in the area from my understanding. I am interested in seeing who/what will occupy the place and how well it will do. Speaking of Jordan's, that shopping center to the south of it is really hurting. Ever since that sex shop went in it just has become cursed it seems. The Chineese place Xing Ying or whatever is doing OK, Cepheloni's (sp?) still isn't occupied, Captains I heard wasn't going to open (not sure if true) I have yet to see a crowd at the Red Onion and heard the food isn't as good as 93rd.

Dead Freddy's say they will re-open Feb 11, many other places opening back up in March. Haven't heard of anything closing with certainty. BaltoBob seemed to know a lot, maybe he will chime in. On a side note this is by far the slowest, coldest, most depressing winter I have seen in 20+ winters I have seen in town. Maybe it's just a case of winter doldrums right now, but it is slow even for OC winter standards.

The Red Onion lost its base (Island Cafe folks). They're now spead between Duffys, High Stakes,Whiskers, and the OC Elks. The base is what keeps you going in the off-seaso.

I think you can include JC's pub in there also Sandyclaws. I was down a couple weeks ago and JC's had a decent crowd. never really had anything there other than the wings...they were good however.

It never fails---When the "new owner" thinks he/she knows more what customers want---than the customers themselves the business usually goes under sooner or later. Case in point is the Red Onion. The owners of Duffy's and Whiskers must have been doing back flips when the Island Cafe was sold, and learning what the new guy was doing. 138th street is not 79th street!!!

Highball...Just curious what is the owner of the Red Onion doing? I know that the owner has Kirby's but other than that I don't know much since I don't frequent them when I'm in town.

Terrance owns Red Onion but the Money man is a guy named Darryl who was the town bookie for years. Still may be for all I know. They bought the location and they have a short lease at Kirbys I'm told.

I think Red Onion will do fine. Nobody makes any money off the keno commando locals who demand everything and threaten to revolt over everything....

In my opinion if the Island had such a good "base" why did they go out of business? Happy Hour Drinks and Keno do not make you money in OC....Restaurants make money...

Look for the places that are busiest that have been around awhile and have lines all summer...

None of the above qualify as anything but a locals dive...Just like the Island was..

BTW...apparantly the Dr. Unks rumor was started by the owners of Decauter Diner in West OC....Thats what I heard so dont shoot the messenger...I can neither confirm or den
